WE MAKE CHEMISTRY
CHEM-E-CAR
We have to design a chemical energy powered car that can carry a given amount of load and move specified distance.
STAGES OF COMPETITION:
  • Abstract submission: details (weightage 10%)
  • Performing round (event day): (weightage 60%)
  • Viva/presentation round (event day): (weightage 10%)
  • Appearance of the car: (weightage 10%)
  • Innovation in car model: (weightage 10%)


GENERAL RULES
  • Each team may have maximum of four members. Multiple teams from same institution are allowed, considering their abstract and model is not same.
  • Final date of abstract submission is 22 January 2019.
  • Cost of chemical used must be mentioned in abstract.
  • Decision made by committee and judges will be final.


ROUND 1: Abstract submission round(weightage 10%)- mandatory for further selection
  • Abstract must contain:
    a. Introduction of team members
    b. Schematic of vehicles
    c. Cost of chemical required
    d. Car feature and setup
    e. Chemical reaction used and its details
    f. Creativity in car design
    g. Environmental and safety feature
  • Send your abstract in ‘.pdf’ or ‘.ppt’ format to atifiqubal3785@gmail.com or dsethiya11@gmail.com. Subject of mail should be “Chem-E-Car_Abstract_[Team-Name]” and file name must be [Team-Name].pdf or [Team-Name].ppt
  • Selection of further round depends on last abstract submitted till 22 January 2019.
  • The result of selected abstract will be put on the website & facebook page of Equilibrio and will also be mailed to you by 23th january 2019.
  • Feel free to contact our competition managers for any queries.
  • Penalty will be imposed if the model deviates from the abstract submitted.


ROUND-2: PERFORMING ROUND(WEIGHTAGE – 60%)
A trail will be given to each team. In this car would be checked for emission of harmful chemicals, if found so team will be eliminated. Team will be disqualified if judge deems the car unsafe for run on the given venue. Only one opportunity will be given.
  • STARTING CAR
    Only two minutes will be given to setup the model. Once the car crosses the starting line, team cannot touch their car i.e. No chemicals can be added else after. Any contact with the car their after will lead to disqualification. Any type of mechanical device or push for the starting of a car will result in penalty. If car is initiated and not moving (i.e. Till it has not crossed start line), you can retouch the car if you are within your time limit of two minutes.
  • STRENGTH TEST
    Car is expected to carry a specified payload of 0-500 grams. Car should have a proper room to keep the load. One of the organiser from team eqilibrio will measure the payload and it would be given to you to pour it in your car. Required payload will be informed 2 hours prior to start of competition.
  • TRACK DETAILS
    Car should traverse a distance of 8-15 metres in a rectangular area of width 1.5 – 2 metres. Required distance will be traversed will be given to each team for two hour prior to start of performing round. Track includes 3rammers/ speed breakers equally spaced and rough patch of 1-1.5 metres
  • COURSE LAYOUT
    The foremost point of car’s initial and final position will be noted down to calculate the distance traversed by the car. Distance of middle-foremost point from middle line will be measured to calculate the deviation of car. Finish distance will be measured from the finish line. The distance will be always be measured from the finish line to the front of the car. A vehicle goes outside the course will have its distance measured to where it went out of bounds and accordingly penalty in the form of point deduction will be imposed.
  • DIMENSION OF CAR
    Car must fit in the box of 50cm × 35cm × 35cm. Car may be disassembled to meet the requirement. If the judges are uncertain whether the car will fit inside the box when disassembled, they may request that the team demonstrate that they can do this.
  • PROVISION OF CHEMICALS
    Teams are responsible for bringing their chemical supplies. Disposal of the waste in the disposal site is team’s responsibility.
  • WORKING OF CAR
    Car working mostly depends upon the chemical reaction and to control the product of the reaction. The car must be powered and stopped by a chemical reaction. Use of commercial batteries or commercial engines is strictly prohibited in your car system.
  • DURATION OF RUN
    The maximum time limit for the run is 4 minutes. If the car is still moving in the end of the 4 minutes will be consider as its final position and time of travel as 4 minutes. If the car is not moving after initiation of car for a time of one minute, your team will be eliminated or position will be noted down and time of run will be calculated as 4 minutes.
  • TRAIL RUNS AND RESET
    An hour timing will be reserved for all teams to take trails runs before the actual run starts. One reset will be permissible if car goes out of bounds/track layout and does not pass through rough patch. Again if car goes out of track then best of two measurement will be taken for calculation of points.
  • ECONOMICS
    Abstract must include the amount and the cost of all chemicals required for the construction of your car.

ROUND-3: PRESENTATION/ VIVA ROUND(WEIGHTAGE – 10%)
  • This will be face to face round with the judge, you will be grade purely on the viva taken by judges
  • This will be more of technical interview taken by our judges.


ROUND-4: APPEARANCE OF CAR(WEIGHTAGE-10%)


ROUND-5: INNOVATION IN THE CAR MODEL(WEIGHTAGE-10%)
Deviation of car from the general model (i.e. use except of iodine clock reaction or ardino as stopping mechanism or lead acid battery as power source).
NOTE: Points would be deducted if your team with the car is not present on the time as scheduled.


SAFETY MEASURES
Each team must use appropriate safety measures. Which are as follows:
  • Every chemical must be labelled properly, in English, with team identity. The container of chemicals must be covered as well.
  • Proper protective measures must be taken by team against chemicals and electric hazards. i.e., to prevent human exposure to these chemicals and to prevent the possibility of electric shock.
  • Every team has to bring their own equipment. These equipment may include lab coats, safety glasses, gloves, face shields, and hearing protection.


CERTIFICATION POLICY
  • Top two winners will be awarded with prises and certificates of merit.
  • Third will be awarded with certificate only.

PET BOTTLE ROCKET
PET BOTTLE ROCKET is an event involving basic engineering knowledge and hence students of all branches can participate. It is an interesting event, has simple design, easy to construct and is less expensive. The purpose of organising this event is to provide the information related to TIME OF FLIGHT and RANGE obtained by model of rocket. These useful information are used for dimensional analysis of prototype.


ROUND-1
First round is a qualifying round. In this round how far the rocket goes is measured (i.e. the range of the flight is measured). For qualifying this round rocket should go beyond the 50 meters. Otherwise team will be disqualified. Two chances would be provided for this round.
30% Weightage for First ROUND-1


ROUND-2
Second round is final round and this round is focused on TIME OF FLIGHT i.e. how long the rocket remains in the air. For this round team has to design a parachute and it should open during the flight.
70% weightage for Second round
